What is a Credit Union?

A credit union is similar to a bank, in that it offers the same financial products and services; but credit unions, unlike banks, are owned by their members and operate to serve in all members' best interest—regardless of the amount of deposits in your account.

Take a look at what makes credit unions so unique:

Not-for-Profit
SECU is not-for-profit because we operate to serve in our member's best interest rather than maximize profits. Our profits are turned over to members in the form of higher dividends, lower loan rates and low transaction fees.

Member-Owned
SECU is democratically controlled and member-owned and operated. Each member has equal ownership and one vote—regardless of the amount of money they have at SECU. Our members own us!

Volunteer-Run
SECU's governing policy and interest rates are set by a volunteer Board of Directors elected by and from the membership itself.
